Great Secret Cocktail

Great Secret Cocktail

1 Dash Angostura Bitters.
1/3 Kina Lillet. (3/4 oz Cocchi Americano)
2/3 Dry Gin. (1 1/2 oz Plymouth Gin)

Shake well and strain into cocktail glass. Squeeze orange peel on top.

Very tasty!

Pretty close to a Vesper, eh?

I suppose if you were stuck with using Tanqueray or Gordon’s it might make sense to cut the gin with a bit of vodka.

But if you’re using Plymouth, I see no reason.

This post is one in a series documenting my ongoing effort to make all of the cocktails in the Savoy Cocktail Book, starting at the first, Abbey, and ending at the last, Zed.

  1. I don’t know the Montmartre, but must advise you to try it with Cocchi Americano or a semblance thereof.

Reasonable facimile of Cocchi Americano: 1 oz Dry Vermouth, 1 dash Angostura, 1 dash Luxardo Maraschino, dash simple syrup. Orange twist.

    • Greg, The Bich’s Special and Great Secret appear to be identical.

I don’t know anything in particular about the origins of either cocktail, possibly they are Savoy Originals.

It was definitely not below Craddock to recycle cocktails he liked with different names for different occasions.
